I love those old lizzard colors, far nicer than the current grey scheme!
Witnessed that low level flying too during my service years (1984-1985) but unfortunately never thought of bringing my camera while being on exersise

Remark: These are slidescans. I only have an old minolta slide scanner, so quality is sometimes poor. Sorry about that.
The slides are from my personal A-10 collection. I've got over 700 slides of about 500 A-10's. Over the next couple off weeks I'm trying to get them all on my flickr photostream, but I'm posting the ones who I think are interesting.
The shots aren't made by me, and I don't know who made them. Are any of these shots yours, and you mind them being posted here, please send me a PM.

Eagle's interesting shot of WR230 above shows that the first tactical color scheme given to production Warthogs could be a challenge to maintain in the face of field corrosion control practices. Clearly, the corrosion control shop did not have the correct shade of gray in stock when 230 passed through.

This early color scheme was actually quite pleasing when the aircraft were seen new, or nearly so, as in the case of 77-0186 of the 354 TFW photographed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY on 4 July 1978 below

The two massive tanks make for an impressive sight. Here the 78-0591/WR, shot was taken around June 1979.

A-10A 78-0586 of the 118TFS/103TFG CT ANG at Manchester, NH on 28 September 1991. I have left this image uncropped because it shows at this late date that there are a number of WWII-era buildings still present on the east side of the airport from its days as Grenier Army Airfield.



Krazy, your shots are very interesting and historic, but the dirt is such a distraction. Have you tried canned air to clean them off before you scan them? I know you said all you have is an old Minolta scanner. All I have is an old Minolta scanner, too.

You've got a point there Tom..

I'll see what I can do. I believe the scanner contributes to the dust problem as well (it was unused for over 2 years..)
And otherwise, I have to kick in a bit more photoshop work (like I already did with the 2 A2A's)

I have an old Minolta scanner too and believe me, I do a lot of Photoshopping to get the images the way I want them to be, it simply goes with the territory of scanning.
Otherwise, it's great to see these old hogs. All I have myself are pretty boring AR and WR coded jets from the 81st TFW.

Krazy,
I get most of my canned air from the big box store. When the can is new, I normally keep the can stable upright on a table, and move the slide in front of it. This way you are less likely to get a blast of liquid propellant on the slide, which can ruin it. Who knows, it may get enough of the dust off so that a little photoshopping will take care of the rest.

OK, if you have a big collection, it is going to take A LOT of photoshopping, but as Hans said, it's what we have to do to get these images uploaded in decent shape. I do a lot of B&W, and my scanner does not do ICE on B&W, so always lots of work in photoshop.
