Is suspect the visibility is greatly reduced. Especially if the big aircraft like C-130, E-3 and C-17 are also parked in front of the public.
Trouble is mostly for shots on the runway. As soon as the aircraft are airborne, they get high enough to be seen over most of the static aircraft. But mind you can be fooled about where they pop up over the static display (I missed the Vulcan's start on friday in '09 as I didn't expect it to need such a short take-off run). Also in the past some big aircraft have been put on the side of the public area (think KC-135, KDC-10, Vulcan)

If you ask politely, most people will allow to take short timed static shots, as long as you don't stay there all the time to watch the complete show.

Jonas,

Displaying aircraft (flying) are well above the aircraft parked on the static display. The big ones like KDC-10, E-3 and C-17 are parked at the beginning or end of the static diplay, so for sure not near the display centre. Parked aircraft only could obstruct visibility towards aircraft on the runway. During the open days, it would be advised to find a position in between parked aircraft if you prefer aircraft on the runway.

Jonas,

At the end of the static near the beginning of the runway would be the best place to take your spot, the view on the runway is a bit of a challenge but nevertheless it"s still possible to take actionshots.I would advise to be early.
see link below to give you an example of the Volkel airshow in 2009

how is the condition of the grass, is it high so that you can't see the aircraft wheels on the runway or has it been mown recently?

@ Aviodromefriend, Maurice and Ramses2
Thank you for your answers. I understand that it is still possible to make good shots of both the flying and static display :-D
Kind regards

the grass between the runways is a little bit high. So no wheels on the picture.
They did not mown the grass because it attracts birds.
Only the area where all the people are standing is mown.

When I have a look at the arrival times for tomorrow there is a major gap between 1300 and 1600 with no arrivals.

Could this be rehearsel time for the flying display?
