BRUSSELS 17:17 09/10/2018 (BELGA)

The Defense is selling twenty-five Alpha-Jet training aircraft,
aircraft based in France but will only be available from December 2019,
military sources said Tuesday (16oct2018) .

The deadline to participate in this contract,
which covers 25 aircraft, various equipment
- including engines - technical documentation and a simulator,
is scheduled for November 7,
says a notice published by the Directorate General of Material Resources (DG -MR) of the Defense Staff.

These small jets - 33 copies were acquired in 1973 -
entered service in the years 1978-1980 and
are nearing the end of their life despite the mid-life modernization
they have undergone since the year 2000. .

They are currently based in Cazaux (south-west France),
where they fly in a Franco-Belgian school of fighter pilots
the "Advanced Jet Training School" (AJeTS) established in 2004.

But this one will formally cease to exist in December 2018
after having trained nearly 150 Belgian military pilots.

The Air Component, pending the government's choice of a new fighter to replace its F-16s,
has chosen to resort to a proven formula for the "interim" period from 2019 onwards.

training its future pilots: the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT),
a school located at Sheppard Air Force Base, near Wichita Falls, North Texas.

According to military sources,
the Alpha-Jet will remain one year in Cazaux,
used by the French Air Force time to settle the accounts of AJETS.

The devices will then be sold by the Defense, possibly in batches, says the opinion of the DG-MR.

They will be available from December 2019.

The Franco-Belgian school of fighter pilots from Cazaux in France
has definitively closed its doors this Thursday, October 11, 2018.

In February 2017, the current commander of the Air Component,
Major-General Frédéric Vansina announced in an interview with Belga
that future Belgian pilots would no longer be trained in France
but in the United States from 2019 onwards.

at Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT),
a school located at Sheppard Air Force Base in North Texas.

This interim decision was taken to mitigate
the end of life of the "Alpha-Jet" without any link with the replacement of the F-16.

The closure took place during an official ceremony on Thursday, October 11
in the presence of Major-General Frédéric Vansina.

4 have been lost.
This would make 4 left if 25 are to be sold.

The one on pole at Cazaux is already in place. The pole with Belgian A-Jet is front of another pole with a Frecnh one.
