Pakistan-India: Pakistan 'shoots down two Indian jets' over Kashmir

Pakistan says it has shot down two Indian Air Force jets in a major escalation of the Kashmir conflict.

A spokesman said one plane had fallen inside Pakistani territory and a pilot had been arrested.

There is no comment from India.
Pakistan has denied reports that one of its jets was shot down.

"I am Wing Commander Abhinandan, I am IAF officer. My service No is 27 981," one pilot says in a video issued by the Pakistan army, reports PTI.

However, there was no official confirmation from the Indian government.

Pakistani F-16 shot down in J&K's Rajouri sector

A Pakistani Air Force F-16 fighter jet was shot down by Indian Air defence forces
in Rajouri sector of Jammu region on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The aircraft was brought down in Jhangar area of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri sector, officials in the Army said.

Pakistan has in its captivity Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, a MiG-21 Bison pilot as confirmed by Indian government.

1) 2 PAF's JF-17As violated India's airspace
2) They shot-down a Mi-17V-5 helicopter near Siranagar
3) IAF scrambled 2 MiG-21Bison to intercept JF-17As
4) JF-17As shot-down one of the IAF MiGs
5) The IAF MiG-21 crashed in Pakistan.

I really wonder why India sends out MiG-21's when they have dozens of supermodern Flankers in their inventory?!

I guess these Bisons were closest to the hot spot.

IAF has a Quick Reaction Alert of MiG-21's at Srinagar AFS which is quite close to the border

They have now, when the damage has been done. Su-30MKIs & MiG-29UPGs are patrolling the Kashmir area together with an IL-78 tanker (RK3449).

Looking likely tonight may see some form of response from India.

Now being reported that "INS Vikramaditya" is heading towards the area.

Uhm, that would be remarkable since Kashmir isn't really close to the sea and land based aircraft could reach it much easier. Unless of course, the conflict is evolving into a full scale war and India would want to threaten the Pakistani shoreline.
