Accident: Mahan A313 over Syria on Jul 23rd 2020, upset as result of conflict with fighter aircraft

A Mahan Air Airbus A310-300, registration EP-MNF
performing flight W5-1152 from Tehran Imam Khomeini (Iran) to Beirut (Lebanon),
was enroute at FL340 about 160nm east of Beirut
in Syrian Airspace near the triangle Syria, Jordan and Iraq
when the crew performed an abrupt maneouver
to avoid two fighter aircraft and climbed the aircraft at least 600 feet.

Mahan Air flight W51152, an Airbus A310-304, suffered an apparent in-flight upset event while en route in Syrian airspace.

The aircraft departed Tehran, Iran, at 14:43 UTC, bound for Beirut, Lebanon.

While en route in Syrian airspace passengers were injured in an upset event.

Videos posted online suggest the flight was intercepted by two fighter jets.

The agency initially reported a single Israeli jet had come near the plane
but later quoted the pilot as saying
there were two jets which identified themselves as American.

It isn't international airspace.
So I think you can understand their "panic"

According to the Americans, the airliner was intercepted because it was straying towards an area with US backed forces.
