In 2019 was the 50 anniversary of the AirVenture at Oshkosh Wittman airfield held between 22 and 28 July. Oshkosh is not your regular airshow as most people will already know. It is the Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention. The program, which is handed out at the entrance, is not the flying display schedule, but the convention’s 32-pages overview of all forums,
lectures, briefings and workshops which are held during the week. Over 250 of these free events are held on a daily basis. A large amount of the event audience will arrive by air. According to the EAA website this year they brought 2758 “show planes” with them. These included 1057 home builts, 939 vintage airplanes and 400 warbirds. Beside these aircraft there were over 12,000 sites
for the aircraft camping. The airfield handled a staggering number of aircraft operations. For the eleven days of the convention 16,807 movements were recorded which average to approximately 127 takeoffs/landings per hour. Approximately 642,000 people visited this year’s AirVenture.

As the AirVenture is held over eleven days, the aircraft on view change during this period, with aircraft coming and going. So if you have checked all the rows of T-34s on Tuesday you will see that several have gone or been added by Thursday.

The report below is that from Wednesday till Friday. During the weekdays in the mornings you will see numerous aircraft arriving and departing. Several aircraft types will leave for some fun / formation flying. They will leave the airfield together, disappear from sight and only come back an hour or so later. For example on Wednesday at 07:20 local time (the airfield opens to the
general public at 07:00) five P-51 Mustangs were noted taking off together. The afternoons saw more flying displays, from Pitts special to the F-35. There were also mass launches of warbirds (up to 60 aircraft) which would provide several formation flypasts.

As there were so many aircraft we listed some aircraft in block per area or type. All info between brackets was not on the aircraft. Several museum aircraft were in the static, these are marked with a *. I am sure not all aircraft of our interest are listed, there were just too many.

Most operational military and government aircraft in the public area were parked at the main static square, with a few between the exhibition buildings. The static grew during the week with aircraft added. At the beginning of the week a UPS B747-8F N616UP was the large aircraft in the static, but by the end of the week this was replaced by the Galaxy and United B787-8 N45905.

These flightlines were clearly visible from the static side. Also here the situation changed during the week. For example the EN Talons and Navy T-6 hed left before the weekend, while more EA-18Gs and a Marines F-35C were said to have arrived just before the weekend. The Blue Angels made some flypasts on Monday, while The Thunderbirds did this on Thursday.

Main attraction for a lot of people were the Mustangs. Parked amongst them was a single Spitfire. Along the edge of the area was the nose of TB-25N N9088Z/44-30733.

Most of the jet aircraft were parked on the 04 end of the short runway, next to the Trojans. The northern part of the line-up (were mostly L-39s were parked) was not open to the public which restricted good photos of these aircraft. Also here was not ex mil S211 NX877B.

Not only Oshkosh Wittman has a large number of camping aircraft but also the airfields of Fond du Lac to the south and Appleton to the north had hundreds of visiting/camping aircraft. Noted at Fond le Lac on 25 July was SNJ-6 N916DC/112180. Appleton has some more interesting aircraft. The B-17 and B-29s were doing pleasure flights from here and could be seen overflying Oshkosh on a daily bases. The B-17 and a B-29 were relocated to Oshkosh by the end of the week.
