FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PILOTS SAFE FOLLOWING AIRSHOW REHEARSAL MISHAP AT LIMA’15

LANGKAWI, 15 MARCH 2015 – Two aircrafts from the Jupiter Aerobatic Team of the Indonesian Air Force display team clipped wings during the aerial display rehearsals for Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2015 (LIMA’15). Two of the six KT – 1B Wong Bee aircrafts were involved in the mishap, resulting in the loss of both the aircrafts.

All four pilots ejected successfully and are now under observation in Langkawi Hospital. The Search and Rescue (SAR) team headed by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) was on hand within minutes of the incident and successfully located the pilots in Kedawang (approximately 11.3 KM away from the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC)).

One house and one parked car caught on fire as a result of the falling debris, Mr. Zulkifli bin Abu Mutalib, the owner was not at home at the time.

The RMAF and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) will form a joint team to investigate the cause of the mishap.

both aircraft on takeoff just before the accident
heard two big bangs (ejection) and saw two parachutes, big anxiety about the fate of the second aircraft
fortunetly, no victim

the next day, all remaining aircraft have left Langkawi
