USAF A10 Osan 640Assam Draggins in the twilight

At the begining of January 2025, the 25th Fighter Squadron "Assam Draggins", part of the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base (Republic of Korea), started a phased withdrawal of its 24 OS coded A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft. On 13 November 2024, Scramble first wrote about the withdrawal of the OS A-10s .

It was expected that the 25th Fighter Squadron's withdrawal would be completed by the end of fiscal year 2025. The end of fiscal year 2025, for the USAF, ended on 30 September 2025. For now, it seems a few Thunderbolt IIs are still residing at Osan awaiting there movement back to the Continental United States (CONUS). On 13 June 2025, a small ceremony, regarding the disbanding of the Assam Draggins, was held at Osan.

With the phased  A-10 withdrawal from the Korean Peninsula, USAF's Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) are now focussed on advanced fourth-generation fighter jet upgrades at Osan with  the ongoing F-16 Super Squadron test (Read here).
