Colombian Navy helicopter crash

At Guaymaral airport near Bogota, a UH-1N helicopter of the Aviación Naval (Colombian Navy) crashed on 4 November 2020. The helicopter carried out a training flight at low altitude when something went wrong and the helicopter overturned. It ended up in the safety zone adjacent to the runway of Guaymaral.

Emergency services of the airport and the national police, which has a large helicopter base at the airport, came to help the crew. One of the crewmembers had to be transferred to the military hospital. The navy has sent an investigation team to Guaymaral to investigate the accident.

The helicopter, serial ARC223, is a former Aviación del Ejército (Colombian Army) UH-1N (ex EJC-230) and is operated by the Grupo Aeronaval de Transporte y Apayo Fluvial (GATAF), a unit tasked with supporting marine corps units in riverine operations in Colombia.
