NL KLu CH 47F Dennis van der Wiel 640Helocasting operations Dutch Chinook

On Monday 7 June 2021, the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) exercised a helocasting operation for the first time with their new CH-47F Chinook.

Dennis van der Wiel send us a small video of 298 Squadron CH-47F D-473 exercising near Raamsdonkveer.

The airborne technique to insert small units, special operations forces, into a military area of operations is called helocasting. The small unit is flown, by helicopter, to a maritime insertion point. Once there, the aircraft assumes an altitude just above the water's surface and an airspeed of 10 knots or less. Team members then exit the aircraft and enter the water.
