NHI and Norwegian government settle NH90 dispute
On 3 November 2025, it was officially announced that Norway and NHIndustries (NHI) had reached a settlement ending all litigation related to Norway’s cancelled NH90 programme.
Under the agreement, NHI will pay Norway €305 million as a cash settlement. Norway had already received approximately €70 million under bank guarantees, bringing the total cash and guarantee amount to around €375 million.
The settlement stipulates that NHIndustries will take back all helicopters, along with associated spare parts, tools, and mission-specific equipment, from the Norwegian government. NHI will assume full control of the recovered assets and reintegrate them into the NH90 programme, making the parts and equipment available to other NH90 operators.
Norway had contracted for fourteen navalised NH90 anti-submarine warfare helicopters under a 2001 agreement. The programme suffered from long delivery delays, missing parts, and reliability and maintenance issues. Only part of the fleet was operational, leading Norway to cancel the contract in 2022.
The following NH90 helicopters were intended for Norway. One aircraft, serial 415 (c/n 1415), was not delivered due to the contract’s cancellation:
