Restoration of a former Heeresflieger UH-1

Thanks to LH Aviation, we are able to report that a former Heeresflieger (German Army) UH-1D has arrived by truck at Maastricht-Aachen airport (the Netherlands) on 13 January 2022.

There, at the facilities of Aircraft Solutions the faithful Huey, with serial 72+94 (c/n 8414),  will be restored to flying condition. It is expected that the chopper, once restored, will receive a Belgian civilian registration. A private heliport in Kasterlee (Belgium) will presumably become its homebase.

The helicopter was one of the 371 UH-1Ds that were built for Bell under licence by Dornier in the 1969/1970 period.  Since then the type was used by various Luftwaffe (German Air Force), Heeresflieger (German Army), Bundesgrenzschutz (Border Police), Bundesministerium des Innern (Ministry of Internal Affairs) units.

Huey 72+94 lastly served in May 2020 in the Search and Rescue role with Transporthubschrauberregiment 30 (TrspHubschrRgt 30) at Niederstetten. Its role has since then been taken over by the new Airbus H145M.
