South Sudan 4 640South Sudan Antonov is limp after landing incident

On 8 February 2022, an Antonov 26 of the South Sudan Air Force (serial SP-402) made a forced landing in the disputed South Sudanese area of Abyei, leaving the seven passengers and five crew members uninjured.

It was coming from South Sudan’s capital Juba carrying examination papers, when it missed the runway and landed on the road instead.

During the forced landing the Russian-built transport aircraft suffered a severed wing, which can be seen in the pictures on Twitter.

Preliminary information suggests the aircraft hit a pothole on landing, causing the left hand wing to snap off, outboard of the no.1 engine.
