US Army MFO Black Hawk crashed

A US Army Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) UH-60A+ Black Hawk crashed on Tiran Island, off the coast of Sharm-el-Sheikh (South Sinai governorate, Egypt).

Eight occupants lost their lives in the accident, that took place on 12 November 2020. Six US nationals were killed in the crash, along with a French and Czech national.

One US MFO member survived and was medically evacuated. The crash has been attributed to a technical failure rather than any form of foul play, including militant activity.

The UH-60A+ Black Hawk helicopter belonged to 1st United States Air Support Battalion (USASB) Det.1 Aviation Company (Det.1/AvCo) based at Sharm-el-Sheikh (Egypt).

This unit is supporting the MFO, an international peacekeeping force tasked with overseeing the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
