Airbus wins order from Azerbaijan Airlines
At a ceremony in Baku on 6 April 2023, Airbus and Azerbaijan Airlines signed a contract for an order for Azerbaijan Airlines. In total, the national carrier is ordering twelve new Airbuses, consisting of A320neos and A321neos. The exact breakdown per type as well as the planned delivery timeframe hasn't been communicated yet.
Azerbaijan Airlines, which was founded in 1992, currently operates a fleet of four A319s, seven A320s, three A320neos, two A340-500s, one A340-600, one Boeing B757-200, three B767-300ERs, one B777-200LR, and two B787-8s.
The airline had once ordered ten B737-8s but decided to cancel that order back in 2019 after having "safety concerns" over the type. During last year's Farnborough Airshow, Azerbaijan Airlines did sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing for four additional B787-8s but these haven't been firmed yet.
