Allegiant Air orders B737MAXs

Boeing and Allegiant have announced that the ultra low-cost carrier has ordered 50 B737MAXs with options on another 50. In total, the airline will take delivery of 30 B737-7s and 20 B737-8200s, the high-capacity version of the B737-8. The first aircraft are set to be delivered in 2023, with the remainder in 2024 and 2025.

According to the press-release, Allegiant has always been opportunistic in its fleet acquisitions and touted that this Boeing-order was no exception. It will provide the airline with "flexibility for capacity growth and aircraft retirements, significant environmental benefits, and modern configuration and cabin features".

Currently, Allegiant operates an all-Airbus fleet, consisting of 35 A319s and 86 A320s. According to Reuters, Allegiant had also considered ordering the Airbus A220 but in the end decided that the offer from Boeing made more sense for them.
