Bombardier Global 8000 640Bombardier launches Global 8000

On the first day of EBACE 2022, 23 May, Bombardier officially launched the Global 8000. It was first announced back in 2010, together with the Global 7000, which has now been redesignated as the Global 7500. Originally the Global 8000 was supposed to be 2.4 metres shorter, but with 680 miles more range.

Now, Bombardier has announced the Global 8000 will be identical in length to the Global 7500, but with a higher speed and more range. Compared to the Global 7500s speed of Mach 0.925, the Global 8000 will be able to reach Mach 0.94. Furthermore, the range will be extended from 7,700 miles to 8,000 miles.

The Global 8000 will supersede the Global 7500, but for a while, both variants will be manufactured on the production line. Current Global 7500 owners will also be able to upgrade their aircraft to the Global 8000 standard, with the down-time needed for the retrofit expected to be less than a week.

There are relatively few changes compared to the older model, these comprise mainly software updates, tweaks to the GE Aviation Passport engines and optimisation of the empty weight and the resultant ability to carry more fuel in the existing tanks.

The new model will enter service in 2025.
