Ethiopian Airlines orders B777-9s

Boeing has won an order from Ethiopian Airlines for the B777-9. On 5 March 2024, both companies signed a firm order for eight aircraft, with options for another twelve.

No delivery timeline has been communicated and there also wasn't an update provided on the airline's Memorandum of Understanding for 5 B777-8Fs, which was signed on 8 March 2022 but hasn't been finalized yet.

Ethiopian Airlines' fleet is made-up of twenty Airbus A350-900s, three B737-700s, seven B737-800s, four B737-800SF/BCFs, seventeen B737-8s, three B767-300BDSFs, six B777-200LRs, ten B777Fs, four B777-300ERs, nineteen B787-8s, ten B787-9s, and 31 DHC-8-400s.

Last November, during the Dubai Air Show, the airline also placed orders for new aircraft with both Airbus (for the A350) and Boeing (for the B787-9 and B737-8).
