Lufthansa Group orders narrowbodies with Airbus and Boeing

On 19 December 2023, the Lufthansa Group board approved the acquisition of new narrowbody aircraft with both Airbus and Boeing. The decision and order isn't a surprise and the plan was already reported on by Scramble in October 2023.

With Airbus, the Group has ordered 40 A220-300s for its new subsidiary Lufthansa City. It also secured options for 20 additional A220s, as well as 40 options for the A320neo-family.  Boeing received an order for 40 B737-8s, with options on another 60. These aircraft will be operated, most likely, by Lufthansa itself but could also end-up with other airlines within the Group.

Deliveries of the new aircraft are to take place between 2026 and 2031.
