New Chinese helicopter AC332

As announced by Xinhua News, the prototype of a new Chinese twin-engine helicopter, the AC332 registered as B-OCAA, made its first flight on 7 April 2023. The AC332 is multipurpose helicopter in the 4-tonne category, comparable with types like the Airbus H145. It is developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Although the certification of the AC332 is not expected before 2025, a launch order was revealed on the day of the maiden flight. This order includes the purchase agreement for eighteen aircraft and the intented purchase for an additional six. They will be used in air transport, emergency medical rescue and patrol, and other diverse fields.

The helicopter has a maximum takeoff weight of 3,850 kg and can carry up to ten passengers. It has a maximum cruise speed of 260 km per hour and a maximum flight range of 693 km, according to AVIC. The AC332 can take off at an altitude of 4,500 meters with a ceiling of 6,000 meters, meeting the requirements of air transport, search and rescue, and medical aid in plateau areas.
