Qantas cancels acquisition of Alliance Aviation

On 18 October 2023, Qantas announced it has decided to cancel the acquisition of Alliance Aviation that was announced in May 2022. The cancellation is the result of formal opposition by Australian competitor regulators earlier this year. Qantas will, however, hold on to its stake of 20% in Alliance Aviation.

While announcing the scrapping of the deal, Qantas also said it would wet-lease four additional Embraer ERJ190s. This takes the total number of ERJ190s operated by Alliance for QantasLink to 26. There is also an option to increase this with another four.

The fleet of Alliance Air today exists of 30 ERJ190s, fourteen Fokker 70s, and 25 Fokker 100s.
