Surinam Airways' A340 enters commercial service

On 11 June 2023, Surinam Airways' new own Airbus A340-300 entered commercial service. The four-holer, PZ-TCW (921) left Amsterdam as PY993 and safely arrived at Paramaribo almost nine hours later.

The flight marks an important moment for the airline as it had been wet-leasing A343 SurinamAirways 640capacity from airlines like Air Belgium, and Airhub since it ended its own widebody-operations in February 2021.

Since its launch in 1953, Surinam Airways has operated five widebody aircraft by itself:

  • August 2004-January 2010: B747-306M PZ-TCM (23508)
  • December 2009-November 2015: A340-311 PZ-TCP (049)
  • December 2015-October 2019: A340-313 PZ-TCR (242)
  • December 2019-February 2021: B777-212ER PZ-TCU (32336)
  • June 2023-today: A340-313 PZ-TCW (921)
