Western Global Airlines files for Chapter 11

On 7 August 2023, Western Global Airlines announced it has filed, and received, so-called Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to a statement, the airline will continue to operate as normal while it restructures and refinances in order to pay its debt holders.

WGA was founded in 2013 and launched operations in 2014. It has its main base at Fort Myers (FL). It currently has a fleet of 21 aircraft, although only seven are operational. In total, it has four Boeing B747-400Fs (one parked) and seventeen MD-11Fs (thirteen stored/parked).

In February 2022, the airline ordered two new B777Fs at Boeing but these have been cancelled earlier this year due to their financial struggles.
