Forum for all matters concerning Amsterdam-Schiphol airport (and control zone, including heliport). Customary language is Dutch, but English is also accepted.
Quote from Ryanair's website: "Ryanair is now in negotiations with Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to see if a viable cost base can be agreed to allow a low fare Shannon-Amsterdam route to be launched."
Would be an interesting development given Ryanair's usual antipathy towards major airports!
It might fill the void if Easyjet's intention to leave AMS becomes reality next year after the Dutch Government's new "travellers" tax levy is in place.
Heard this rumour already a few weeks ago. Also don't rule out Rotterdam Airport to become a new FR destination. There are good slots becoming available @ RTM soon.
Ryanair used to be very interested in operations out of Rotterdam. They wanted to start with a DUB-RTM route if i remember correctly. But FR was in that time still flying with 737-200s, which wasn't really appreciated. I think that was the main reason why they (weren't allowed) didn't start the route.
Well actually Rotterdam Airport directors shut the door for Ryanair, as Ryanair doesnt't want to pay any landingfees. They promise jobs, advertising, and secondary income like parkingfees, beverages, etc.
Transavia's reason for continuiing their loss-making Rotterdam-Stansted routes, is holding Stansted-slots and blocking EZY and RYR (if paying...)
I always thought that in the period Ryanair serious wanted to come to Rotterdam in the past, Transavia's "sudden" (political??) move to RTM blocked them out.
But reading some reactions here, is it save to say that this hasn't sorted the expected effect and transavia is backing out so that there will be slots available voor Ryanair????
