strange contrail

Post by GURB »

Hi All,

Sitting in my garden, I saw a plane passing by with quite a big contrail. As a spotter I look at every plane passing by and knew this did not look normal. I got my binoculars and took a look at it. It was a 2-engine British Airways plane(I am a military spotter and did not know the type) which I thought to be a triple 7. The contrails were not coming of the engines, but somewhere between the engines and the tip of the wing. In al my life I have not seen anything like this.

Does somebody knows what this is? And why it happens?

See attached picture, which I took with a small pocket camera, so I apologize for the poor quality.

thnx,
Gerben

Hi.

Could this have been the G-YMMI of BA ? On route from LHR to PVG my SBS showed a strange turn of more then 60 degrees. Was in the area of Beverwijk around 15.40.
Might be returning to LHR (BA169).

On Casper see can be seen turning 180 degrees and descending. Heading back towards LHR.

Great catch!

This was a BA flight flown by a friend of mine. Enroute to Shanghai, their B-777-200 lost oil quantity, then pressure, on the number two engine so they had to dump fuel and return to base. Can someone send me the original photo, he'd like to have it.
