NAS JRB Fort Worth Carswell TX - 17/11/2011

Post by Katabatik »

After a first stop at Alliance airport up north, I arrived at Carswell around 10:00. Shortly after some local F-18s from VMFA-112 landed (#09, #07, #05). I made some photos sun facing :( not worth showing so I decided to move to the eastern part of the runways. Then came an UAE F-16 (used as weapon verification testbeds).
Biggest problem to make some good shots are the heatwaves as you can see on this one :

There was a lot of activities on-going with successively C-130

C-9
Image
VFA-143 "Pukin Dogs"
Image
C-12
Image
VFMA-112 "Cowboys"

Then I decided to go back to the western spot when I saw on bunch of F-16 showing up preparing to take off :

I had to leave around 15:00 to catch my flight back home. It was heartbreaking, there was so much action going on. At some point I heard on the scanner ATC Ground apologizing to some visitors for the delay to take off and mentioning that it was highly unusually busy !! Anyhow I could stay any longer but what a day !
My favourite of the day :

I moved to 4 different places during that day around the airfield, met some local folks too (like MikeK), we even found that we had a "friend" in common (PietL) (en passant thanks Piet for all the tips- it really helped ). Biggest challenge there is to get some good angles without the sun facing and to cope up with the heatwaves (early on the morning would be actually better to fix this one). Beside that great place, lots of action (could be a lucky day too), the Walmart nextdoor to re-fill  and the great texan weather.

Hectic days, slow days, it is all there at NFW.
Good shots of this day. Indeed, midday is bad for pictures. But good line-up of visitors and locals.

Glad I was of any help, next summer I will be there again, finally...unfortunately this winter no Dallas flights for me.
Greetings,

To conclude on the topic (this is the flag hanging high @ Alliance Airport) :

[photo has been removed - flag orientation was not right]

Hope to be back there soon.

You damn right ! That is what a ten hours flight without sleeping does to the mind. Second try :

The answer is given by the author himself, even before the first picture:
Biggest problem to make some good shots are the heatwaves as you can see on this one :
