AIRBASES NEAR OF ISTANBUL?

I go to Istanbul in Turkish the next week, Do you know same airbases very near of Istanbul and wich models of aircrafts have in this A.B.?

Is possible doing spotting near of this A.B. and is dangerous?

I can recommend Yesilköy, housing the Turkish Air Force Museum.
Not only does the museum have an interesting collection, but also from the museum you can spot aircraft on the military side. The guards saw me using my binoculars and did not say a thing, so spotting was accepted here!

If you walk from the museum-entrance from the outside along the fence -counterclockwise- you will pass the air force ramp. When I visited in 2004 there were 2 UH-1s and 2 CN235s.
Here spotting has to be done with care though, but these aircraft are so close that you hardly need your binoculars!

Maybe good to mention, Yesilkoy is also the international airport of Istanbul. And besides the museum, the T-41 Mescaleros (Cessna 172) are based here as well. During a 10 hour transfer there in April, I read 11 of them as they were flying pretty well during the day. All read from the terminal, I had no problem whatsoever with security.
