Emergency landing Dutch F-16 in Belgium

Post by wamovements »

Translation:

A Dutch F-16 made an emergecy landing at Charleroi. Due to debris on the runway the airfield is currently closed.
The pilot left the plane unharmed.

Comment:
Callsign should be M2926, so probably an F-16 operating out of or onits way to/from Charleroi

Looks like the landing gear collapsed during touch down (main wheel doors are open) and I think "emergency landing" isn't correct, as the aircraft tried to perform a normal touch and go during a test-flight. Other sources reported that the nosewheel wouldn't deploy....

J-640 is one of the F-16's sold to Chili. That is also the reason it is at Charleroi.

french text at rtl.be has it that the aircraft suffered damage to the tail during a touch and go after which the aircraft belly-landed immediately. If this is a correct observation it might mean a tailstrike occurred. The belly-landing might then be explained by the fact the gear was already retracting at that moment (hence the open main gear doors)..

Due to debris on the runway the airfield is currently closed.
Judging by the screenshot, that is indeed quite a big piece of debris
