New aircraft for RTAF

On 21 December 2020, the Kong Thap Akat Thai (RTAF, Royal Thai Air Force) formally inaugurated two new aircraft types at Bangkok/Don Muang.

The two aircraft types involved were the BL.15K Transport Aircraft and BL.21 Trainer Aircraft. Outside Thailand these aircraft are better known as the Airbus A320-214CJ and the Diamond aircraft DA40NG, of which eight aircraft were present.

The A320, serial L15K-2/63 and registration 60205/HS-TYW (construction number 9313), was acquired as a backup aircraft of A320 HS-TYT/60203 that is flying VIP duties with 602 Squadron for some years already.

The DA40NG trainers will be used for basic single engine flight training with 604 “Sunny” squadron also from Don Muang and will therefore replace the CT/4A. The Diamonds underwent factory acceptance in Austria between 11 and 14 August 2020.

The squadron codes worn are 60462 to 60469. Code 60461 is used by the P180 Avanti II EVO drone aircraft. Next to the DA40NG, the RTAF already flies the twin-engined Diamond DA42 for some years, two of which are also flying with 604 Squadron.
