New infrastructure to be build at Andersen AFB
The US Department of the Air Force (DAF) started a procedure that should lead to the building of new infrastructure at Andersen Air Force Base, US territory of Guam. The new infrastructure would consist of airfield pavements, an aircraft hangar, maintenance and utility buildings, fuel systems, fencing and roadways and parkings in the northwest corner of the airfield.
The proposed infrastructure has multiple uses but is initially intended to host and operate up to twelve McDonnell Douglas F-15SG Eagles and associated mission support from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). However, other partner nation aircraft or missions operating from Andersen AFB could benefit from these facilities.
Andersen AFB was selected from a total of six possible locations within the Pacific Air Forces area of responsibility.
Now before anyone starts packing their bags to travel to Guam it is worth considering that the construction of upgrades could take approximately 3 to 7 years to complete.
The RSAF has three squadrons operating the F-15SG totalling forty aircraft; 142 Squadron Gryphon and 149 Squadron Shikra at Paya Lebar air base and 428th Fighter Squadron Buccaneers at Mountain Home AFB (ID).
