Reincarnation of a wartime Mustang

The news has come from our friends of the French website l’Echarpe Blanche’ (merci beaucoup, mes amis!). Thanks to them we can inform you that Midwest Aero Restoration Ltd. in Danville (IL), USA completed another Mustang restoration. North American P-51D 44-84952 (c/n 124-44808) made its first post restoration flight as N210D on 9 October 2023 with pilot David Martin at the controls.

The Mustang was built in 1944 but has not seen combat. It had several civilian owners until being bought by the current owner Englishman David Nock in 2016.

After a seven year rebuild, N210D immerged in the authentic colours of a wartime P-51D, serial 44-14495 “Dallas Doll” with code ‘SX-I’ which flew with the 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group based at Raydon (UK) and was flown by Lieutenant Frank H. Bouldin Jr.

Once the test flying has been successfully completed, “Dallas Doll” will be shipped to Duxford (UK).

Midwest Aero Restoration Ltd. has a long and impressive list of previous P-51 restorations. To name a few: ‘Cripes a Mighty’, ‘Daddy’s Girl’, ‘Red Dog’ and ‘Happy Jack’s Go Bunny’.
