Brief history
Congo-Kinshasa was born out of Zaire in 1997. From the remnants of the Force Aérienne Zairoise, the current Force Aérienne Congolaise was formed. The backbone of the former Zaire Air Force consisted of Western aircraft types, notably MB326 and SF260 trainers, Mirage 5 fighters, Alouette and Puma helicopters and C-130 Hercules transports.
Current air force
In recent years, the Congolose Air Force has turned to former Soviet block countries and obtained Mi-8/17 helicopters, Su-25 attack aircraft, and An-12 and An-26 transports.
Although numerous facilities are spread around the country, the air force only actively uses a few. Many relics litter the other bases.
