The Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) AH-64A+ and more modern AH-64DHA Apache are the primary attack helicopter of the Elliniko Aeroporia Stratou.

The Hellenic Army received 70 surplus ex-US Army OH-58D helicopters to augment the Apache-oriented attack helicopter force. They were transferred from the US Army under the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program at an estimated cost of $86,514,800.

Initially, in 2003, 20 NH90s (16 TTH, 4 SOH) were ordered but due to the economic turmoil that hit Greece several years later, some deliveries were postponed. 14 NH90-TTH utility and two NH-90-SOH Special Forces configurations are in service by 2023.

This U-17A was delivered in 1966. The type still operates in the training, utility and liaison roles throughout the country.
