From there they will be shipped to Woensdrecht for final assembly.
Originally due to be handed over in 2009, development problems with the type's Honeywell Block 6 avionics suite have delayed their arrival.
Official delivery is now scheduled for October, when the Chinooks will be added to the RNLAF's 298 Sqn at Gilze-Rijen air base.
Three further aircraft will be permanently stationed at the US Army's Fort Hood site in Texas for training purposes,
alongside eight of the RNLAF's Boeing AH-64D Apache attack helicopters.
The RNLAF already operates 11 D-model Chinooks according to Flightglobal's HeliCAS database.
The Dutch government had initially planned to upgrade these to the F-model standard,
but in May this year defence minister Hans Hillen raised the possibility of scrapping the upgrade in favour of an 11-unit order of CH-47Fs.
Although initial costs would rise, the RNLAF's Chinook fleet could remain operational until at least 2045,
rather than 2035 with the upgraded D-models.
Whether this change will be upheld is uncertain and depends on the outcome of September's general election.

“Als commandant wil je maar een ding: dat je personeel optimaal getraind en met het meest geavanceerde materieel op missie gaat.” Dat zei luchtmachtcommandant luitenant-generaal Sander Schnitger vandaag op Vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen”. De materieelorganisatie van Defensie droeg daar 2 nieuwe Chinook CH-47F-transporthelikopters over aan de luchtmacht.
Het zijn de eerste van 6 nieuwe toestellen, wat het totale aantal Chinooks straks op 17 brengt.2 vervangen de helikopters die tijdens de missie in Afghanistan verloren gingen. De overige 4 breiden de bestaande vloot van 11 CH-47D’s uit.

Schnitger: Met de Chinook-F heeft de luchtmacht een hightech werkpaard dat aan alle eisen voldoet.” De nieuwe aanwinst betekent volgens hem een enorme verbetering van de hele helikoptervloot. “Daar waar hoogwaardig materiaal van doorslaggevend belang is om operationele doelen te bereiken, is onze airpower toekomstbestendig.”
Veiliger
Behalve het kleurschema - grijs in plaats van groen - en het onderhoudsvriendelijke airframe, zijn de verschillen tussen de modellen F en D van operationeel-technische aard.
Zo beschikt de nieuwe variant over een verbeterde cockpit.
Met behulp van een digitaal automatisch vliegsysteem kan de vlieger nog secuurder en veiliger vliegen onder moeilijke omstandigheden, zoals het opereren in een stoffige of zanderige omgeving.
De ‘F’ kan zijn omgeving, met name bij duisternis, nog beter in kaart brengen. Daarnaast zijn ze uitgerust met 5 zogenoemde fastrope-posities en een zelfbeschermingsysteem.
Blussen
De crisisbeheersingsoperaties van de laatste jaren toonden het belang van middelzware transporthelikopters. Er bleek een groot tekort aan dit soort type toestel, zo werd internationaal onderkend. Defensie zet de Chinooks ook nationaal in, bijvoorbeeld bij het blussen van grote natuurbranden, zoals vorig jaar in natuurgebied Aamsveen nabij Enschede.
Training
Voor trainingsdoeleinden stationeert de luchtmacht 3 toestellen op Fort Hood in de Amerikaanse staat Texas.
Daarnaast biedt de School voor de Grond-Lucht Samenwerking in Schaarsbergen een uitstekende trainingsfaciliteit voor de Chinook-F.
Met een zogenoemde mock-up met afdaalhoogte van 10 meter kunnen cursisten oefenen op specifieke helikopter- en afdaaldrills, waardoor minder vlieguren nodig zijn.
Ook het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en diverse NAVO-partners gebruiken het namaakmodel voor specifieke training van (militair) personeel.
Waarschijnlijk doel je op pagina 28, de derde kolom waarin staat "dat de 5e Chinook (D-895) eind januari 2013 op Fort Hood wordt afgeleverd gevolgd door de zesde en laatste (D-890) in maart". Er staat niet expliciet geschreven waar deze 6e en laatste F heen gaat maar volgens mij is het nog steeds 3 naar Fort Hood en 3 naar Gilze Rijen, in andere publikaties wordt hier namelijk wel melding van gemaakt.Stafsels wrote:Hi all,
The magazine "Onze Luchtmacht" states in her most recent edition that not three but only to CH-47F will operated from Europe will the other four will remain in the States for training. As I remember it should have been three in Europe and three in the States.
