PhanCon 2016 dates announced

Post by Flanker »

from the F-4 Phantom II Society website (http://www.f4phantom.com) :

last chance to see the QF-4 in action !!!

PhanCon 2016
September 12th -16th 2016
I am proud to announce this year we have chosen Holloman AFB, New Mexico to host our conference. As the mission of the Phinal Phantoms in their variant as a QF-4 arrives we feel the approach toward a highly deserved “Salute to the Mighty Rhino” is indeed deserving of our presence. We thank you in advance for your support and invite you to attend.
Registration will be open starting mid-month February 2016 on our website, so keep an eye out. Phantoms Phorever!
James Thompson, President, F-4 Phantom II Society.

Maybe not quite, as Holloman are planning to hold an airshow in early October.

Might be true that there will be an airshow hosted in October, a PhanCon gives you access to the operational side and in this case that includes a visit to Det1 82ATRS and allows you to photograph all remaining QF-4s (at this moment only 18 remaining :( ).
Beside that the Society will try to arrange operational visits to the GAF Tornado and USAF units.

So, okay maybe not the last chance, but definitely worthwhile visiting !!! :D

Do you have more information (date?) about an Airshow at Holloman 2016 in October ?

hi K2G, unfortunately not.
Don't know where Jazz707 gets the info from.
I don't have any info on an airshow at Holloman AFB this year.

Not yet, but to quote 49Wg PA... "We are planning to hold the Air Show in early October - that's probably why you haven't seen many details about it yet. We'll do our best to keep the Facebook page updated with info as we approach that date."
And of course, PhanCon is still worth attending for much better access (i'll be there)! But, if the show does go ahead (and the QF-4's are still flying), this will probably be the last chance for most to see the QF-4 in action, so lets hope they make it a very special 'sunset' for the Rhino in US service.

Further to the above, which may be of interest to those making plans...
From the 49Wg PA "Our open house this year has been cancelled and pushed to next year".
This means that PhanCon 2016 will indeed be the final public "Salute to the Mighty Rhino" in US service. Registration should be open within the next week or two, for the event on 12th-15th September.
