I've planned to visit the Airshow at Kecskemét on Saturday August 16th.
Does anyone know if there is any (public) transportation from Budapest City Center to Kecskemét AB ?

Thanks and see ya,

Peter Roumen
Hello,

I suggest to use train. Buy "Intercity" ticket(!), because the normal service is not the best. The trains depart from Nyugati Pályaudvar (Western Railway Station) every hour. The journey takes about 1 hour 20 minutes.

Schedule:

http://www.elvira.hu/elvira.dll/xsl2005 ... d=47627C49

From Kecskemét Railway Station there will be a direct bus service to the AB.

I guess it'll be the same this year.
I'm thinking of travelling by train from Budapest also. As well as the shuttle busses, it looks (on Google Earth) like it would be less than 30mins walk to the field.

Can anybody who was there last year tell me if this is correct?

Thanks

It should be. Last year I took the shuttle bus from/to the train station & it took about 15-20 the way there and back. The downtown was closed down from traffic (as were the routes heading to the AB from the city) so one could travell fast.

I'm sure Tomcat will respond shortly, but he's talking about the train station in Kecskemét town. Its possible to take the train from Budapest - you can check the timetable at http://www.elvira.hu/elvira.dll?language=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The hotels in Kecskemét are almost full - I had difficulty getting booked. If you are only planning one day at the show and dont have a hire car, it might be easier to stay in Budapest and get an early morning train (booking required but quite cheap).

PIK Flyer: you've been faster :)

I was talking about the Kecskemét railway station. Booking is not required for the early morning train unless you're willing to travell in the IC-section (offtopic: trains to Szeged via Kecskemét are probably of the funniest sort: a part of it is InterCity (reservation required) the other a simple fast train... so don't be surprised if you find two trains (an IC and a fast train) leaving at the same time. :))

Last year I took the train at 6.40am to Kecskemét and was a REALLY long train (I was afraid of that it won't fit to the platforms) and got to Kecskemét around 8am. There were lots of folks on the train (see below), though you couldn't feel it.

On the way back this was the same situation:

Thanks for the correction about having to book the train - I must have misread the timetable. It looked as though even a first class return ticket was quite cheap by British/Netherlands etc standards.

The photos are a great bit of "on the spot" reporting. Different people have different definitions of "crowded" - the photos say it all.
