Izmir 4-5 June - 100 years TuAF - Spottersdays

Post by Daniele »

Looking for the Izmir runway direction I was wondering how they're going to manage the photo places during the day... just because you have half day ok and half day backlight... ;)

Izmir 3 & 6 June - International spottersdays

Post by Aviation PhotoCrew »

On behalf of the Centennial Team and the Turkish Airforce, we would like to invite all the aviation enthousiasts and photographers to take part in the very first Spottersday in Turkey.

This event will take place in the same week as the 100th Anniversary Airshow, "Air Show Turkiye 2011" at Cigli Airbase, near Izmir.

There will be two dates where we would like to welcome the spotters; on friday june 3th for the arrivals and rehursals of that day, and on monday june 6th for the departures.
The spottersday will become a worldclass event for all the aviation enthousiasts, with a very attractive package, and superb locations at the airbase to take your pictures.

More information will be posted in time, but here is a little teaser just to warm you up:

You will be able to photograph nearly every type in the inventory of the Turkish Airforce.
Foreign participation is very broad and exciting, and the first 4 countries with aircraft participation for you are: Greece, Algeria, Belarus and Pakistan.

In coorporation with the Izmir Tourist Board, there will be special rates offered to all spotters for accomodation; more info on this subject later.

In response to the many questions regarding airbase lay-out;
we know very well that as keen photographers you would like to be positioned close to the action and with the sun in your back...all day!

Depending winddirection, in the morning spotters will be offered a good spot along the taxitrack close to the landing/take-off point on the runway.

In the afternoon we move our guests to the opposite side of the runway, to have a equal exciting view again with the sun in a favourable position.

We will supply you an attractive spotterspackage ( price still TBD, but very much in line with other major spotterdays ) including drinks, lunchbox and some souvenirs of the Turkish Airforce. Once the website is online ( planned within a few weeks ) everybody can directly order tickets trough an easy pre-payment system.

Friends, of course I am only speaking for myself, but nevertheless, I am sure that I am not the only one that would prefer more Turkish and foreign fighters, and not so much teams. Except the Pakistanis, the other until now known teams, are well represented in every major European airshow.
I don´t believe, that so many of us are going to Turkey to watch 8, 9, 10 and more teams, or? It´s a country were spotting is extremely difficult and so, the show in Izmir represents a chance to see more of the indigenous fighters and hopefully, also some more from countries like for example, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt etc.

I know, that most probably I can´t even imagine, how difficult it is for the organisation team to plan this spotter event :worship:
But rumours, like about the flightpast in 2001 and a possibly repetition this year, are very dissapointing.

Let´s stay friends and hope for the best!!! :D

AFAIK in 2001 there was no sppottersday, so this show is already different from the one in 2001.

In one of the previous posts it was mentioned that there will be loads of activity fomr the local T-37's en T-38's and this alone makes it worth the trip for me. Everything more then that is even better.

Let's however keep in mind the reason the THK hosts this event, which if not for spotter's sake. The event is meant for the public, and they love the demo-teams.

No matter what, I'm looking forward to this event. Great weather, excellent beer, and most probably some nice aircraft.

See y'all there, except the ones that don't believe it's gonna be great...

I have called Turkey yesterday and was told that it would take 'a month or so' before the new website is ready and registration starts.

Hello to all again!

After my final meeting in Izmir airbase, I can provide you know with most of the information you all are waiting for:

The long awaited website will be online next week; some small adaptations are made now for the spottersday part, but everything should be running soon.

Spottersday on friday june 3:

report to gate between 7.30 and 8.30, on airbase until 14.30

you can photograph arrivals and rehursalflights from a position close to the runway and active taxiway ( please DO NOT have your imagination running wild, as arrivals come in from wednesday onwards )

take care of your own transport to and from the base.

Showdays june 4 & 5 :

there will be a seperate area for spotters in the spectators zone.

Try to find your way to the airbase by using the public transport, especially in place for the showdays; trains & shuttlebuses ( because there might be a lot of traffic jams outside the airbase )

Spottersday on monday june 6:

report to gate between 7.30 and 8.30, on airbase until 14.30

you can photograph departuress from a position close to the runway and active taxiway.

take care of your own transport to and from the base.

SPOTTERS REGISTRATION:

>> Mandatory in your backpack: sunblock, water and lunch!!! Altough there might be some tents for shelter, it can get very hot in Izmir in june, 30 degrees or more.

>> registration on website: by name, email and pasportnumber
>> first come, first served: 1000 registrations accepted

>> SPOTTERDAYS WILL BE FREE !!

That's it for me, good luck to all and hopefully you will have a nice stay in Turkey. All info about aircraft participation and anything mentioned above you will find on the official website. Some countries previously announced do not send aircraft, some cancellations, but also some nice additions like Jordan F-16's ( static ) not 1 but 3 x JF-17 ( flying as well! ) and you will even see a dynamic display of a Pakistani F-16!

Thanks for all your patience, Eric
