Axalp 10-11 October 2012

Post by swissmember »

I wonder why there is no Axalp 2012 thread. However according the swiss aviation magazine "skynews" some Gripens will participate the 2012 Demo.
I don't know yet how many jets will come or where they will be stationed. The second news is that Axalp 2014 will not take place due to Air 14 at Payerne.

Well I am going to the "regular" side. The Wildgarst is really a nice hike though, but you should start at 4:00 am in the morning to be on time (if your not an exercised climber I would suggest taking at least 5 hrs of hiking time). When there's snow it's going to be hard in the dark.

Fortunately the last years I noticed more passess over the Brienz see (not only PdS but as well formations F-5 / F-18). Which means you have a few opportunities to make some pictures with the sun in the back. Still you can make some awesome pics from the regular side.

I am really looking forward to the event. Wx forecast looks quite ok. Although the practicing day on tuesday looks a bit uncertain.
Any news from the Gripen? It is still in the program but I understood Swiss canceled the intentions to buy any Gripens.

According to http://www.news.admin.ch/message/index. ... g-id=46201 the aircraft should already be at Emmen.

:D :D Nice Gripen. Very rare sight some foreign display at Axalp (in the past we had some FAF F-1's with Swiss exchange pilots).

I would like to ask you something else. I am getting the opportunity to test one lens from Nikon during the Axalp event. But still I am doubting between:

-200-400/4.0 AF-S VR IF-ED
-500/4.0 AF-S VR IF-ED

In the past I used 400 mm on Axalp and it was quite ok. Taking in account the crop factor of a D300s body the 500mm (750 mm cropped) might be a bit to much. I am slightly prefering the 200-400.
