When to use and when NOT to use VR, IS or OS?

Post by One-Oh-Four »

I have read that above certain shutter speeds the image stabilization doesn't work that good anymore. Something to do with the frequency with which IS works? With high shutter speeds, the possibility exists that IS actually creates blurriness/movement in the photos? In any case, IIRC above 1/500 or so, it would be better to switch IS off?
What are your experiences?

Bedankt & groetjes,
Erik.

I personally never use OS when operating above focal length of lens.
So working with 600mm, and shutterspeed above 1/600s, it is switched off.

That is, when predictable.
Normally it is on.
With Dutch weather like now is, better use it

You did know that most manufacturers advise to switch off VR, IS or OS when mounted on a tripod?

Yessir! I'm aware of that! Although the latest Nikkor lenses seem to sense when the camera is mounted on a tripod. But to be sure, I always switch it off when tripoding! :)

Just read the manual from my 120-400 (sigma) but nothing on high shutter speed.
Only something on option 1(horizontal) and 2(vertical), they advise option 2 for moving objects.
