Canon Extender 2x (Quality)

Post by CH47D »

Fellow Photographers ,

I have been using with great result the Canon 100-400 EF lens , for some of the movements at the airport i found out that 400 mm max isn't enough and came across the Canon Extender (2x) because the 2x is roughly USD $ 375 here in the U.S. before i purchase this extender is there anybody out-there that has any experience (good or bad) with this product combined with the 100-400. If possible any examples with the extender. Would like to see if 200-800 will be the solution.

Thanks ahead for posting

Cheers

Keep in mind that you will not have autofocus anymore (without tricks) and image quality degrades seriously. The 2x is really only meant for the 300 f/2.8, 400 f/2.8 etc.

Thanks for the tip , will probaly get 1.4x rather than 2x since i need the auto-focus function and 2x hasn't got that.

Unless you own an EOS1D or EOS5D you will also loose autofocus if you combine 100-400 with 1.4TC...

You'll lose AF on the 5D as well, only the 1D(s) can cope with F8 as maximum aperture. All the other cams need F5.6.

Thanks for the reply i am using an EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS on a Rebel T1 so i better not be getting either one because the autofocus is not functional on the T1 model. I probaly rent a Canon 500mm for a day or two to get those airborne shots at i.e. Marana , thanks for the advise it has saved me a few bucks.
