NIKON D3200 Question

Post by USAIR »

Dear Friends,

I just bought a NIKON D3200 camera (equivalent to Canon T4i) here in the States , because it came as a bundle with 55-300 and 18-55mm lens as well , it was a great deal. I am not familiar with NIKON settings , maybe one of you can help me. What is the best settings for Take-Off shots with this camera. I use my Canon (P) mode , but am not sure about the NIKON mode's. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Roy

Hi Roy,

Since the D3200 is new, there are not many who can talk from experience with this specific type however:

For take-off shots (or any dynamic environment) the rule of thumb is to have the shutter time 1/xxx faster than the number of millimeters focal length xxx. So when using a 200mm lens you want a shutter time faster than 1/200 sec in general. You pan with the object in motion and should have a sharp subject and a soft background.

Rule of thumb, because VR can get you slower shutter times allowed!!
For prop blur you want long shutter times in order to get the prop disk, so you need to do something to stabilize your camera. The longer the lens, the bigger the challenge 

You settings on the camera may be P (and adjust you shutter speed...) Auto (sports setting) or S (shutter, and choose your shutter time, the aperture should be selected by the camera). For prop blur choose S and long shuttertimes (you may want to use a tripod)

If you cannot get shuttertimes fast enough you may want to push the ISO setting to a higher ISO.

Please do show us some pics of the 24MP camera!!

Afaik there is also A for Aperture-priority Mode.
