RNLAF CH-47F at night

Post by danledan »

The only 2 CH-47F Chinook helicopters, flying for the 298sqn, Royal Netherlands Air Force and based at Gilze Rijen, ceased flying activities in Dutch airspace and will continue their missions in the US after being upgraded.

With some great help from personel from the 298 squadron, i had the unique opportunity to shoot this CH-47F, with serial D-892, during a nightshoot at 31st of January 2019.
This CH-47F made its last flight and left Gilze Rijen at February 7th, towards Woensdrecht. At Woensdrecht the Chinooks will be prepared for shipping towards the US

They will be shipped to the US and de-commisioned. Parts are being re-used for new CH47F's

I thought the 6 F's would be updated to same standaard as the 14 new F's!?

...rather new-ish Chinook CH-47F's being de-commissioned as in "grounded" :?:
Surely not?

Or is only specific equipment taken out of these airframes,
after which they would be used for the training role only ?

RNLAF will receive 20 CH47F's. 14 of these are brand new, 6 will be new air frames filled with a lot of re-used parts. So, in total 20 new tailnumbers are coming.

I think the other way around old airframes with new components. The 6 F's are only 5 years old.!

One of the modernisation parts is the fuselage. There are differences between the current F fuselage and the new one. For commonality it is better to have them replaced. The majority of the components are being re-used. And for your info, the fuselages are now 11 years old but due to delay in that program delivered in 2012/13

In addition to above discussion and for those interested: first 14 CH47F Chinooks expected to be registered D472-D485 (2020/2021) followed by D701-D706 (2021)

It's really 20........
for c/n's, put a 7 in front of the registration numbers; i.e: D472 is 7472, etc
