Seattle vancouver airliners

Post by Polecat »

On our way back from a sightseeing trip in the area, near Seattle-Tacoma we found a nice spot (47.4732291665, 22.315533284) to "park and shoot" for half an hour, just before the rain came down...

The fun thing about visiting a place for the first time, every plane you see is a new one..

Loads of DHC-8 flying here, mainly Horizon and Air Canada Jazz, both operate 50 to 60 of these, both short and long..

I was told the MD-80 fleet will be retired the coming year.

And at vancouver through the glass of the terminal you van make quite nice pics, the only trouble is to find a spot where there are no extra glass screens in front of the windows. Many places have a sort of a glass corridor which makes photographing impossible.

Since early this year this a/c features special titles.

the Salmon-thirty-Salmon, a 737-400 in a special c/s.

This year Air Canada celebrates the 70th Anniversary with this special livery, also since somewhere early this year.. This was the only aircraft I saw with these markings though, no idea how many carry them....

Would love to go there again some day....

Nikon D-80 with the 4,5/5,6 70-300VR lens... Most shot at 200 iso and slight Lightroom maniupulation (slight color correction for the windows, bit of sharpening and bit of noise correction, that's all)

the long dashes are Horizon only as AC Jazz doesn't have them

Horizon operates the Q200 and Q400 (long ones)
Air Canada Jazz operates the -100 and -300

There is only one with these markings. I believe there is an A319/A320 as well with 65th Anniversary titles.

Hi, first of all, nice pics! I'll have 5,5 hours time changing planes in Vancouver in Januari, so i'll be able to write down a few nice aircraft.
Can you tell me where I should be once airside? And did you have any problems with security whatsoever?

I had no problems whatsoever with security, I spent about two hours on both legs, standing with a big telelens...
As I wrote I only had problems with glass in wrong places... I finally found a good spot, don't know what gate (I think it was D54,the one KLM used for her MD-11 flights)
It hada convenient seating, and although reaction time was short, you get quite a few a/c taxiing past. The DHC's were taken from the other side , where domestic flights leave, there is a (dirty) single window as well, you get loads of CRJ's and DHC-8's.

Hi Polecat,

I know this has nothing to do with your trip.
But this is another special color from Air Canada.
You did not see this one at Vancouver?

nope...unfortunately not, nice colours....
But as I said, I only spent a couple of hours inside the terminal, so I am not unhappy with my score anyway... saw loads of interisting stuff, next time I might try to spend a day near the runway, loads of stuff we do not get here obviously..

Heya Adz,
here are some more, remember we flew late, so not much light anymore, especially with he dark background, so some shots are a bit blurry.... these are all from (I Think) D54, about 100 meters left of a Starbucks! (how convenient...)

Probably not, as this one is of the 65th celebration of Air Canada in 2002

Yes John, I do know that.
Polecat mentioned something about a special cs on AC planes.
That is why I posted this one.
And to go even more off his topic, my pic was taken at Calgary on August 27 this year.
