Photo topic AMS 26-10-2007

Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

Wow, you got some VERY cool shots in there. The landing JAL is too dark on my screen though, very hard to make out much of the wonderful detail. Great to see some off the beaten track-work here!

Maybe that is because they are taken in the evening.

Exactly. Even tho it is nighttime you can still get a proper exposure (perhaps even more so because you don't have any 'hard' sunlight). The floodlights at AMS provide more than adequate light for most of these shots (some pushback shots excluded). What settings did you shoot the gateshots at?

I think you are right. On the promenade terrace I checked my photos and I thought they were bright enough. When I checked them at home at my computer they were way too dark. I think the brightness-settings of my camera-lcd-screen have misled me. Bummer !
I also notice a big difference between my main monitor ( CRT ) and my secondary monitor ( LCD ) when I watch these photos. On the LCD the photos contain a lot more grain, are darker and got some yellow flood on it.

Most of the shots were taken at 5 or 6 secs F10 / F13 and ISO 50 !! Next time I'm going to use some brighter settings :roll: This was my first serious nightshoot-attempt ever.

:arrow: Histogram! One of the most valuable features of a DSLR, imho (says a die-hard film photog :wink: ).
Your eyes adapt to the dark, so hardly any lighted display is suitable to make asessments from. On the bright side (no pun intended), since you saw enough detail even on that tiny screen, your originals must bear that detail and you can therefor reprocess them to make the pics even better.

About monitors, what you describe on your LCD is more like what my calibrated CRT shows, than your CRT. Apart from the grain that is, your photos look smooth to me.
In other words: your CRT probably needs some adjustment for photos, it is likely set too bright and blue (common 'problem' because it is very practical for daylight websurfing).

If this was your first attempt, I'm definitely looking forward to next ones!

I re-calibrated my CRT and processed all the photos from scratch. Changed the white-balance and made the photos brighter.
I hope they're less dark now.

A world of difference. And I would certainly not make them lighter than they are now. Like that Aer Lingus close-up!

Got to agree, tho the grain is more visible now. Next year, try it in the camera ;). Got some shots myself, I think I'll post them later on in a new thread.
