So it was time for another trip to Linköping this easter holiday! As they forecasted the best day to be this wednesday I still saw more snow then planes... :?
First I tried the landing at Linköping-Vardsberg, aka SAAB, but that resulted in only one photo and a pic of a bird... My initial goal was to see the first Gripen for the SAAF, but none of that, maybe next time.
So then it was quickly to Linköping-Malmen. While settling down there in a beautifull snowy landscape under a nice winter/spring sun several snowfalls were to come. Besides 2 JAS39s, a single Hkp15 and a couple of Hkp9s there was not much to see. However, in the end 2 Saab340s came in for landing. Unfortunately, a few seconds before heavy snowfall started so there is more snow on the pictures than aircraft. All in all, I enjoyed making my snowman overthere :P

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

Nice shots just too bad no more Viggens. Anything new in the Museum?

Linköping-Malmen is pretty easy from outside its a bit like Hopsten, also pretty open. Lots of W/R to be found there too Museum and all round the base and even the Highway. U can also find a spot in the landing on a bridge over the railway.

Are all of these taken outside the base, and with how many mm?

Yes, all are taken from outside the base. I sat at the rocks just outside Jagarvällen south of the base, at the end of the rwy. Here you have a good view for take off shots both if they take rwy01 or 19, moreover the rwy is pretty close (100-150meters) and while being on the hill there you have a good view over the fence and on the base. Landing however, depens if they are landing 01 otherwise if they are coming in from the north they take an exit down the rwy so they are a bit far... My photo #3 is also very much cropped! Others are all taken at around 100-200mm.
The spot Vinny is talking about is north of the base near the museum; landing rwy 19 which is most often used. Or just find a place at or near the museum ;)
Though, take care when spotting there as it is forbidden to take photos near the fence, at or in the direction of the base!
