Pre spottersday Wittmund, July 29, 2008

Post by Redskin301 »

Hi all,

Yesterday July 29, i had my debut at Wittmund. The first time i visited this
field; and what a field it is. I'm very glad i visited this field now the new
fence is not yet finished. We also suffered lot of problems with the bundes
wehr, they sended everybody away who was at the fence. But that was
not a reason to keep me away, just hide into the bush and come out at
the right moments. Phantom activity was very high this day, also 4 sky-
hawks flew, i don't have the photo's edited yet sow for now only F-4. I
was very lucky that all three coloured phantoms very here and they flew
together. I hope you like all my pics and thanks for watching 8)

Hi Alex,

as ususal very nice shots. My favourite is the last one.

Myself I visited the spottersday on the 30th of July. I arrived around 08.20 and the first Phantoms were already airborne. In total 8 I stayed for about 1 hour on the base to photograph the static including the special paints from Manching, JG-74 and JG-71. After that I left the airbase and positioned myself outside the base. Here the sun was in my back. If I would have stayed on the base I would have faced the sun. The mission flown around midday I was be able to photograph nicely (somewhere between 12.00 and 13.30 hour).

In the late afternoon no missions were flown anymore bij JG-71. Pitty! The "orange" F-4 left in the afternoon so I was be able to take this one during take-off. The other two special paints did not fly. Another pitty! The Skyhawks from Flight Systems were still active (four of them) and also a german Transall made a short stop at Wittmund.

I left around 16.00 hours "Phantomtown" Wittmund. I was be able to take some nice shots :D . When I have sorted them out I will publish some of the pictures in this topic.

The new fence is progressing and I think at the end of August the new fence will be completed. I hope the old fence will be removed otherwise photo-oppurtunities will be reduced to only both ends of the runway.

Grtz,

Edward.
