Do you want night shots to appear as day shots?

No, I like 'm to be yellow as they look in reality.

I understand your POV, but don't agree. I'll attach a poll to this thread to see how many people want to make night shots appear as day shots ;-)

Thanks for your comment anyway,

get your point, and to a certain extent I agree with you.
Personally I don't like them to be supercool photoshop blueish(like I did a bit with my FlyBeEmbraer at Dusseldorf) , but I think with the AB you posted the yellow was a bit very hefty... that's why I said "slightly"..

euh the stair.....is this one taken from the long parking? if so you could have moved more to the left to avoid the stair at the nose.

Somewhere between yellow and daylight should do the trick
But that answer is not possible in the poll.

No, it was taken from the corner of the "painters hangar". That was the only place I could find where there was enough space between building and fence to decently stick my lens through from the tripod. I wanted to have my tripod in a low configuration to reduce movement because I was facing a 15 second shutter speed. The stairs were a bummer, but hey, what can you do?

PS: I will try to reduce the yellow a little bit, just to see if it gets better ;-)

IMHO pictures should resemble reality as much as possible. So if the light was yellow, it should be like that in the picture.

The grass is way to green for a nightshot... :(

Hi Marcus,

First of all, a good and useful topic in my opinion. It's a good idea to share work and discuss possible variations and improvements with each other.
I'm not a "Photoshop goeroe" like Iwan Bögels (and that's sincerely meant and not sarcasm!) but nevertheless I venture into a suggestion.

I copied your image and opened it in PS. First I took a look in "variations" which can give you a rough idea of the way you should be heading. In my personal opinion "more red" gave the best result.
So I selected "colours" and added 25% more red. The grass still looked okay after that. Then I set "brightness" to -5 and "contrast" to +10. The endresult looked good to me.

Hope this is of any help.

a bit like this..

just made a quick slightly exaggerated edit and it's still not exactly how Í would like it, but it's not color neutral, nor is it too yellow.. I too found a bit more red making a lot of difference...(but it turned out a bit too cold now I have to admit)

Please don't take this as nitpicking Marcel, just an open discussion from which we all can benefit... and the original shot is still a great nightshot!

I face the same problem when editing nightshots, always a bit of a struggle to get it the way you want because obviously you can never edit it like it really was since you're not at the same spot anymore and cameras 'edit' themselve as well...

Grtz

day or night colors ?

Post by FALCONCREST »

I am personally a big fan of recovering the colors as much as possible.

The yellow lights destroy all the original colors etc.
In my opionion, our eyes convert night colors somewhat to daylight colors.
So thats the reason I like to show the colors ...

see this sample , made from the photo wich started this topic.
I tried to recover some color, burt since I haven't got the original, its only a attempt to show my point...

nice topic !

Option 4: the aircraft color as white as it is and the the sky as dark as it is

I like your interpretation of the Air Berlin 737 very much Falconcrest! It's a pity it probably involves too much typing to explain exactly what you did to people working on a lower Photoshop level...
