Good idea with this topic. Have always loved de-icing pictures they make for great motives. Here a few of mine from Copnehagen starting in 2002 with my first ever de-icing pictures (and first digital) and with a gap from 2003-2006 when I worked in Dubai (and we didnt see any de-icing there  ) Still no de-icing pics from 2009 :(

Here we go December 2002, ECHFT:

GBUSF:

OELMO:

Jan 2003 and deicing of LN-ROB frozen engines:

LNRRO same day:

OYAPB:

And then the gap taking us to February 2007 with ECJNC:

March 2008 and OYCIL:

G-CIEL same evening with Mr. Bryan Adams on board:

Later in March with morning de-icing of OYMRJ:

Hope you liked em!

Bit off topic but with what fluid are planes ´de-iced´???

As far i know they uses " Glycol" it's a Dutch word.
Don't know the translation to English.

First they spray the wings with some hot water and then they spray the Glycol over the wing.
That's wat i know about this.

Anyone confirm this???....

If you are talking purely about de-icing (ie. getting rid of the ice) then it's just hot water. But most aircraft when being 'de-iced' get de- and anti-icing fluids applied in one spray and in that case the fluid contains water, glycol and (depending on which type of fluid is being used: I, II, III or IV) a thickening agent.

Regarding the Scandinavian 737 in the pictures; I'm sure the crew was pretty annoyed with the de-icers as they wouldn't have been able to see a lot after getting airborne and the landing must have looked like a solid Cat IIIb! :?

As far as I konw Type III does not excist...or I never heard of it.

Partially true...allthough it looks easy to 'spray' an aircraft it is a VERY important job/task.
Some tasks/jobs which HAS to be performed are:
-check before and after de-icing,
-check the weather due to Holdover Time,
-one step or two step de-icing,
-check the type of fluid and mixture and if it is allowed to use the 'chosen' type,
-where to spray yes and NOT,
-spray symmetrical,
-and so on...but again it is a VERY important job/task

Ah, but it does (even though it may not be used as often)! It's primarely used for turboprop aircraft because the fluid is formulated to be blown off during a short, low speed, take-off (low "shear speed" for turboprops).

Google and ye shall find! ;)

So annoying this Holdover Time can be, especially at 'on spot de-icing' performed at AMS by some handling companies (e.g. Menzies). In case they use a 75/25 mix fluid, and weather conditions are e.g. Freezing Fog, holdover time is very short, and in case of a long taxi to runway 36L for takeoff, with heavy traffic and 36C in use, holdover time might be short and you cannot takeoff, which means return to the spot for another job

I like the head-on British A/W shot 8)

In december 2007 I made my first (and so far last) de-icing shots at Düsseldorf. Here are a few:

At CPH the de-icers are quite good and very service minded :P

Good to see! :thumb: Hopefully they will clean the nose as well as you can get some residual fluid on the windscreen during the take off roll and rotation. But that's not too bad compared to having the whole windscreen blurred with de-ice fluid! And at least on the 73 you can open your DV window, empty a bottle of water and clean it yourself...

It makes this 737 look quite horrible with the orange stuff on it. Were they using easyJet's supply?

Actually, each type of de-/anti-icing fluid has its own color. Type 1 is orange, type 2 is white and type 4 is green. As far as i know, type 3 has no prescribed color.
