LPG Lightning Run / Bruntingthorpe Visit

Post by IrishAirPics »

Hi Guys,

Spent a cold Saturday at Bruntingthorpe wandering around both the lightning Q-Sheds and the other based aircraft at Brunty.

Here's a selection of my shots from the day, Lightning shots first, based aircraft after that. If you're interested, more pictures can be found here:

Nice photo impression from Brunty! The EE Lightning is one of my favorite aircraft. Just wondering if during your visit you heard something about plans for a Cold War Jets open day in 2009 as they had a few years ago at Bruntinghorpe. I already mailed the Lighting Preservation Group but no response (yet) from them. During this event they performed spectacular high speed taxi runs (or simulated take offs is maybe a better description) with not only the Lightning (both engines with full afterburner!!) but also with the Victor, Canberra, Buccaneer (including wingfold demo) and even with the Comet! I am waiting for a similar event and can recommend everybody to pay a visit to Bruntingthorpe. And ofcourse Brunty is also home base of the only flying Avro Vulcan in the world. The Vulcan Operating Company is by the way really trying to get enough financial resources to continue flying this again marvellous british design during the 2009 airshow season!
Best Regards,
Theo

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

theo: I heard when I was there that an open day is planned for the May UK bank holiday this year when almost everything that can make a run will make a run or two. (I didn't hear that directly from a member of the LPG but from someone who was talking to an LPG member, it does sound like it will happen though).

Regards,

Frank.
