Post by Boudewijn van Oirschot »

Hi all,

I didn't go to the GRAS spottersday since I am not a member.
Should be really worth it to become one.. many (foreign) visitors today as well as Dutch stuff.

I took some pictures from the famous 'Langebergseweg'

Sometimes it gets quite busy at Gils, especially when there's an Antonov.. Today should be the busiest day since ages!

Again thanks to Gijs (GIPS), the ATC and all other people who made this day a great day.

Hi Yorick,

Nice composition, and indeed, too bad about the unsharpness.

I looked at your EXIF-data, but could not find what I was looking for. Did you shoot in the AI-servo mode for auto-focus ?

What I did notice in the EXIF is that you shoot with ISO 100. Why is that ?? If I were you I would go up to ISO 400 with that, This will give you two extra stops of light without loss of quality. You're shooting at 1/800 f5.6 now, and with 400 ISO you could make this 1/800 f11 or 1/1000 f9.

Exactly which lens are you using ?

Cheers,
Iwan

:?: :?: :?:
Maybe not with your 1D or 5D  But with my 20D quality loss is enormous, with my 50D it is much better but still visible (have not had experiences with 400D but couldn't imagine it much better in that regard). I think the problem here is the aperture of f5.6, if not high-end glass that would really make it hurt. Try higher f-stop (well actually lower) like f8-f11 and see if that help. Maybe motion blur will make some shots unsharp but it is still better than having them all unsharp

All th best, Michael

I think the loss of quality depends on the camera. With my 40D the loss of quality is acceptable I think but I noticed that with other camera's (350D / 450D) the loss at ISO400 is much worse.

Hi Yorick!
Nice pictures you made there.
I shooted my pictures at the open day @ Volkel with ISO 200 and i saw they are much sharper as when I shoot with iso 100.
After that my minimum ISO is always 200 because the shots are just much sharper.

Sure, Sander!

I noticed that as well a few weeks ago... Before I took pictures with ISO 100 to reduce noise as much as possible but with ISO 200 it is really good.

First thanks to GIPS and other people who make the visit at Gilze possible.
Here a small contribution of my to this topic, it's difficult to show pictures in a other composition. I give a try.

Do you by any chance use a (protective) filter on that lens? Because a cheap filter can kill a lot of quality! We've had a guy at Eindhoven always f*cking up the focus of his pictures. After a few years I suddenly noticed his latest pictures all being perfectly in focus. When I complimented him he replied he'd recently taken the filter off his lens... I dropped my jaw, because that would have been one of the things that I would have tried at the very start...but anyway, his focus problem was solved!

Nice day at Gilze by the way...!!!!!! 8)

Stephan

Is it possible for the moderator to put them in the right topic.

Thanks
